Dr. Suzan Dsouza is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the American University of the Middle East, Kuwait. With 7 years of corporate and 17 years of academic work and research experience across three countries ,she serves as an active reviewer with various international journals and an editorial board member with four international journals. This keynote explores how environmental innovation drives progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure) among companies across the European Union. Drawing on comprehensive Refinitiv data and employing robust econometric methods, including firm-fixed effects and dynamic system-GMM estimations, the analysis reveals a strong, positive link between environmental innovation and SDG engagement. Notably, the impact is significantly enhanced when companies implement targeted environmental management training tailored to eco-innovation processes. In contrast, generic training initiatives may weaken. These findings emphasize the need for companies to align green innovation with strategic capability-building and corporate governance levers such as board diversity and incentive structures to fully realize sustainability goals. It also highlights training design as a key boundary. Policy and managerial implications point to the importance of well-structured innovation support systems and customized training frameworks to enable firms to meaningfully.
