Dr. Ephraim Suhir

Dr. Ephraim Suhir is a distinguished researcher and professor specializing in applied mechanics, materials science, and reliability engineering. He is affiliated with Portland State University, UCLA, and Bordeaux University, and previously served as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Bell Labs. With over 500 publications, his work has significantly influenced the design and reliability of electronic and photonic systems. Dr. Suhir is a Life Fellow of IEEE, ASME, SPIE, and IMAPS, and a Fellow of APS and the Institute of Physics (UK). He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the ASME Worcester Reed Warner Medal and the IEEE Electronic Packaging Field Award. His research focuses on analytical modeling, probabilistic design-for-reliability, and human-in-the-loop systems across engineering and applied sciences.
Dr. Ephraim Suhir’s research focuses on applied mathematics and mechanics, materials science, and reliability engineering. His key interests include analytical (mathematical) modeling, design for reliability (DfR) of electronic and photonic systems, and probabilistic design-for-reliability (PDfR). He also works on photonics and fiber optics, thin film mechanics, thermal stress and vibration analysis, and reliability of microelectronic and optoelectronic devices. Additionally, his research extends to human-in-the-loop systems, probabilistic predictive modeling in engineering and healthcare, and the reliability of artificial intelligence and robotics systems.
