Paul Platen is the Founder and Principal Consultant of CyberTrust Consulting, a New Zealand-based cybersecurity consultancy specialising in Identity Security, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and Zero Trust strategy. With more than 20 years of experience delivering cybersecurity and digital identity programmes across government, financial services, higher education and critical infrastructure, Paul helps organisations build secure, resilient and future-ready digital trust capabilities. His expertise spans Identity Governance, Privileged Access Management, machine identity security, enterprise PKI modernisation and quantum readiness. Preparing Enterprise Cryptography for the Quantum Era: Beyond Post-Quantum Algorithms The conversation around post-quantum cryptography (PQC) is often dominated by new cryptographic algorithms and the race towards cryptographically relevant quantum computers. While these developments are essential, they represent only one component of a much larger enterprise challenge. For most organisations, the greatest barrier to quantum readiness is not selecting replacement algorithms—it is understanding where cryptography exists, how trust is established, and how to transition complex technology ecosystems without disrupting business operations. This presentation explores why post-quantum readiness must be approached as an enterprise transformation programme rather than a technology refresh. Modern organisations rely on extensive cryptographic infrastructures comprising Certificate Authorities, Hardware Security Modules, certificate lifecycle management platforms, machine identities, cloud services, applications, APIs and connected devices. Many of these assets remain undiscovered, unmanaged or poorly governed, making any future migration significantly more complex and risky. Drawing on practical experience from enterprise PKI modernisation and quantum readiness engagements across regulated industries, this session presents a pragmatic framework for building crypto-agility and preparing organisations for a phased transition to quantum-safe cryptography. It examines the importance of cryptographic discovery, enterprise cryptographic inventories, dependency mapping, governance, machine identity management and automated certificate lifecycle management as foundational capabilities for successful migration. The presentation also discusses emerging industry standards, hybrid cryptographic architectures, implementation sequencing and the operational considerations required to maintain interoperability during the transition from classical to quantum-safe environments. Rather than advocating a “rip and replace” approach, it demonstrates how organisations can progressively reduce cryptographic risk while continuing to support existing business services. Attendees will gain practical insights into the strategic, operational and governance decisions required to modernise enterprise trust infrastructures, improve cryptographic resilience and establish a sustainable roadmap towards quantum-safe computing.
