William Gee is a Chartered Accountant with a professional career spanning nearly 40 years and is a specialist in Emerging Technologies.  William’s exposure to cryptography started when he supported the establishment of Hong Kong’s Public Key Infrastructure and the voluntary licensing regime in the late 90’s.  He went on to lead the development of the Mutual Recognition scheme for electronic signature certificates between Hong Kong and Mainland China.  William participated in various initiatives and studies relating to the adoption of blockchain technologies for trusted digital identities, virtual assets, CBDCs, stablecoins and tokenisation.  William is currently collaborating with regulators and industry bodies to raise awareness of the Quantum Threat and advising on the transitional approach to Post-Quantum Cryptography.

Responding to the Quantum Threat This session seeks to explore the nature of the Quantum threat and discuss its impact on the decentralised ecosystem, enabling participants to gain a better understanding of the challenges institutions face towards achieving quantum resistant.  Specifically, the session will: ·         Review of risks faced by crypto assets and the broader issues on PQC transition ·         Highlight advances in Quantum technology ·         Different attack types on crypto assets ·         Examine current PQC proposals for popular blockchain platforms ·         Share emerging products and services to address the Quantum threats The session will close with a review of the aspects that need to be address to be “Quantum ready”, and the need for robust governance.
