Dr. S. S. Arulappan is a veteran mechanical engineering academic, researcher, consultant, and innovator from India with over 41 years of professional experience in engineering education, research, industrial consultancy, and technology development. He served in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and retired as an Associate Professor in June 2023. He also served as a member of the Board of Governors of the institute. Dr. Arulappan has received three International Best Research Paper Awards in the field of green energy and has presented research findings at several international conferences in countries including Spain, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. His career includes numerous industrial consultancy projects for major organizations such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), where he contributed to the design, development, testing, and optimization of thermal power plant systems and industrial equipment. His notable achievements include the development of ocean wave energy converter models, automation systems, hovercraft concepts, thermal engineering solutions, and a patented invention on ocean wave energy conversion turbines. Dr. Arulappan has authored a textbook on Machine Design, published multiple international research papers, and currently serves as a consultant to the National Research Development Corporation and as a technical expert for projects under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India
