Noha Elfiky is a professor in the School of Economics and Business Administration in the Business Analytics and Data Science Department at Saint Mary’s College of California. She is also the Chair of the Business Analytics department, the Director of the Data Science program, and the former Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at Saint Mary’s College of California. She received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Barcelona, Spain, and a B.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems from Ain Shams University, Egypt. She did her postdoctoral studies at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University. Her current research interests are the applications of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and Business & Data Analytics for real-world problems. This talk explores how AI can be leveraged as a force for social good—enhancing productivity and decision-making not by replacing people, but by augmenting human potential and promoting inclusion. Drawing on real-world examples, the session highlights strategies for designing responsible, human-centered AI systems that address societal challenges, support equitable access, and create positive social impact. Emphasis is placed on ethical implementation, transparency, and inclusive innovation, demonstrating how AI can drive meaningful results while contributing to sustainable growth and the well-being of diverse communities.
