Reference: The Stability of the Congolese Banking System and Economic Growth: An Analytical and Theoretical Perspective on Trust Merchant Bank S.A (TMB) from 2004 to 2023 This paper aims to analyze the relationship between economic growth and banking stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo, drawing on insights from my current professional role and research. As I am in the process of attaining a new rank within my current company, participating in this conference as a researcher will allow me to enhance this article, enabling its presentation to my superiors for evaluation regarding the new rank. The Congolese banking sector has experienced significant transformations over the past two decades. The study reveals that economic growth is a critical factor influencing both the economic and financial profitability of Congolese banks. This growth demonstrates a positive and statistically significant impact on the profitability of banks in the Democratic Republic of Congo overall and on Trust Merchant S.A. specifically. Consequently, Congolese banks demonstrate significantly higher profitability in their processing activities. The study further indicates that the size of the banking environment, in relation to economic growth, has a positive impact on both economic and financial profitability. However, while the effect is statistically significant for financial profitability, it remains insignificant for economic profitability. Additionally, the equity ratio, though positively correlated with both economic and financial profitability, shows a statistically significant effect. The study suggests that public authorities should intensify economic growth and mitigate inflationary pressures to allow banks to fully capitalize on the country's economic performance. Furthermore, it recommends implementing incentive mechanisms, such as deposit insurance, to help restore public confidence in the banking sector.
