Abstract Title

Title: The P.I.V.O.T. Framework™: A Theory-Informed and Evidence-Informed Interdisciplinary Framework for Adaptive Performance, Human Flourishing, and Transformational Resilience Toward an Interdisciplinary Research Agenda for Adaptive Performance Psychology -  Abstract:  Background Across psychology, neuroscience, performance psychology, leadership studies, organizational science, and education, considerable advances have been made in understanding resilience, emotional intelligence, and human performance. Despite these contributions, relatively few interdisciplinary frameworks explain how individuals intentionally adapt, integrate experience, and ultimately flourish following adversity, transition, or sustained uncertainty. Existing models have significantly advanced our understanding of recovery from disruption; however, comparatively less attention has been devoted to the dynamic processes through which adaptive performance is cultivated and sustained across diverse high-performance environments. This conceptual gap highlights the need for integrative frameworks capable of bridging theory, research, and practice while supporting lifelong adaptation, purposeful growth, and sustained excellence. Objective This paper introduces the P.I.V.O.T. Framework™ as a theory-informed and evidence-informed interdisciplinary framework designed to explain and facilitate adaptive performance, human flourishing, and Transformational Resilience. Rather than conceptualizing resilience solely as the capacity to recover from adversity, the framework proposes that sustained excellence emerges through intentional adaptation that integrates cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation, reflective learning, ethical decision-making, and purpose-driven action across personal, professional, educational, athletic, military, and organizational contexts. Theoretical Foundations The P.I.V.O.T. Framework™ draws upon established scholarship in positive psychology, emotional intelligence, cognitive-behavioral theory, self-efficacy, resilience science, post-traumatic growth, adaptive expertise, performance psychology, leadership studies, and decision science. Collectively, these perspectives provide the theoretical foundation for a structured developmental process through which individuals navigate adversity, uncertainty, transition, and complex decision-making while strengthening psychological adaptability and sustained performance. The framework is further informed by interdisciplinary observations drawn from elite athletics, military service, legal practice, higher education, organizational leadership, and behavioral science, reflecting the increasingly interconnected nature of adaptive performance across diverse human endeavors. Framework Contribution The principal contribution of this paper is the introduction of the P.I.V.O.T. Framework™ as an interdisciplinary research collaborative framework for understanding adaptive performance and the proposal of Transformational Resilience as a complementary construct within contemporary resilience science. Transformational Resilience is defined as the intentional capacity to adapt, integrate experience, and pursue purposeful growth in response to adversity, transition, or sustained uncertainty, thereby enhancing long-term adaptive performance and human flourishing. The framework further proposes adaptive performance as a unifying construct linking resilience, emotional intelligence, leadership effectiveness, ethical decision-making, and lifelong learning. Ongoing interdisciplinary research collaborations, curriculum development initiatives, and international scholarly engagement provide an emerging foundation for future empirical evaluation, theoretical refinement, and practical application across multiple disciplines. Implications & Future Research The P.I.V.O.T. Framework™ offers researchers, clinicians, educators, coaches, organizational / political leaders, entrepreneurs / business leaders and performance practitioners a conceptual foundation for advancing theory-informed and evidence-informed approaches to adaptive performance and human flourishing. Future research will focus on empirical validation across educational, athletic, organizational, military, business, political and clinical settings; development of psychometrically sound assessment instruments; longitudinal evaluation of curriculum-based interventions; exploration of AI-supported learning environments; and international collaborative research initiatives. Collectively, these efforts seek to advance Adaptive Performance Psychology as an emerging interdisciplinary area of scholarly inquiry that integrates resilience science, performance psychology, leadership studies, and human development while bridging theory, research, and practice.
