Abstract

WILD LIFE CONSERVATION: WHY AND HOW?
Abstract
Key words: Wild animals, wild plants, significance, conservation strategy
Wild Lives involve both wild animals and wild plants. While wild animals are those organisms that are usually not domesticated or tamed, wild plants are generally the uncultivated plants. The present-day concern is that the number of many wild animals and plants are gradually declining. One of the main reasons is that the common people are not aware of their values despite the fact that wild lives contribute significantly in the progress of human kind, either directly or indirectly. Therefore, before making any strategy for their conservation, we need to understand their importance. This talk is an attempt towards the same. Wild lives not only have aesthetic and touristic values, but also contribute much in human welfare in different ways including economic, ecological, educational and research aspects. Obviously, their conservation and propagation are very much necessary. In my view, first the Govt. has to understand the different factors that are responsible for the decline in the number of wild lives and then the proper actions should be taken to address those factors. Through this talk attempt will be made to propose a well-defined strategy to protect, conserve and propagate the wild lives. Once the wild animals and plants are conserved properly, a country can explore their possible use in market and industry.
