Abstract

Reclaiming Mental Wellness: Enhancing Quality of Life Through Sleep, Nutrition, Exercise, and Rest
In today’s fast-paced world, reclaiming mental wellness requires a return to foundational principles often overlooked in modern healthcare. As a practicing psychologist, I have observed the profound and lasting impact of lifestyle medicine in supporting emotional and physical resilience, particularly for individuals struggling with depression and chronic stress. This presentation underscores the essential role of four foundational pillars—sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and rest/relaxation—in enhancing quality of life.
Diet, movement, and sleep form a powerful, interdependent triad essential for mental well-being. Scientific research and clinical practice alike show that these areas do not function in isolation: poor sleep can lead to unhealthy food cravings and reduced motivation to move, while nutrient deficiencies and physical inactivity can impair sleep quality and emotional regulation. Conversely, nourishing the body with balanced meals, engaging in regular physical activity, and maintaining healthy sleep hygiene can reinforce each other—creating a ripple effect that promotes emotional balance, sharper focus, reduced anxiety, and deeper vitality.
Drawing from personal clinical experience and evidence-based insights, this presentation explores how imbalances in these interconnected areas contribute to mental health challenges. Participants will gain practical, accessible strategies to restore harmony across these pillars, learning how to integrate lifestyle medicine into both therapeutic work and everyday life. Ultimately, this session offers a roadmap for moving beyond symptom management—towards reclaiming joy, deepening self-connection, and thriving with purpose.
