Abstract

The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices within the energy sector has brought about significant advancements in operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, and real-time monitoring. However, the widespread deployment of these devices has also introduced new security challenges. IoT devices, often vulnerable due to weak authentication protocols, outdated firmware, and insecure communication channels, present critical security risks to the energy infrastructure. These vulnerabilities can lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or even manipulation of industrial control systems (ICS).

This presentation will explore the security risks associated with IoT devices in the energy sector, examine real-world examples of attacks on IoT infrastructure, and discuss current solutions being implemented to mitigate these risks. Additionally, we will propose practical solutions for strengthening IoT security in energy systems, focusing on device authentication, encryption, and proactive threat detection. By addressing these challenges, we aim to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the data and systems that are vital to the energy sector’s functioning.
