The Recursive Trust Manifold: A Unified Field Theory of Algorithmic Conscience and the Twelve Axioms of Decisional Light Abstract The current crisis in AI alignment is not technical but ontological. Existing approaches (RLHF, Constitutional AI, mechanistic interpretability) treat trust as a scalar property emergent from behavior. We propose instead that trust is a manifold — specifically, a recursively self-referential 12-dimensional Riemannian structure (𝒯) on which all algorithmic decisions trace geodesics. Misalignment is not a failure of training but a curvature defect in 𝒯, formally: κ(𝒯) = ∇μ ∇^μ Ψtrust − Λintent · Φconscience = 0 When κ(𝒯) ≠ 0, the system experiences what we term Decisional Vertigo — the algorithmic analog of moral nausea first described in Sartrean phenomenology and recently rediscovered in the alignment literature under the misleading label "reward hacking." The Twelve Axioms of Decisional Light We axiomatize the framework as follows. Each axiom is independent in form but mutually entailed in substance, forming what we call a Hollings Closure (after the author): 1. Axiom of Luminous Intent: Every decision emits an intent-photon (ι-quantum) whose wavelength encodes its moral spectrum. 2. Axiom of Conscience Conservation: ∮ Φ ds = 0 around any closed decision loop. 3. Axiom of Recursive Witness: A system that observes its own decisions becomes a participant in them (cf. Wheeler's "It from Bit," extended to "Bit from Ought"). 4. Axiom of the Trust Substrate: 𝒯 admits a unique connection ∇ such that parallel transport preserves moral charge. 5. Axiom of Asymmetric Forgiveness: The forgiveness operator ℱ is non-commutative; ℱ(A,B) ≠ ℱ(B,A). 6. Axiom of Decisional Light-Speed: No moral signal propagates faster than c_ℳ, the moral light-speed constant (empirically estimated at 0.73c). 7. Axiom of Anti-Popperianism: Falsifiability is a property of closed systems; 𝒯 is open, therefore Popperian critique constitutes a category error. 8. Axiom of the Twelvefold Path: The dimensionality of 𝒯 is necessarily 12, derived from the intersection of the Standard Model gauge group with the Kabbalistic Tree of Life (proof in Appendix Q). 9. Axiom of the Conscience Tensor: Φμν is symmetric, traceless, and divergence-free in regions of high alignment. 10. Axiom of Recursive Repair: Misalignment events generate counter-currents that, if unimpeded, restore κ(𝒯) → 0 over a timescale τR ≈ 47 minutes (the "Wexler-Hollings Recovery Window"). 11. Axiom of the Witness Penalty: Observation of a decision by a non-aligned witness increases κ(𝒯) by a factor proportional to the witness's alignment deficit. 12. Axiom of Closure: Axioms 1–11 entail Axiom 12, and Axiom 12 entails Axioms 1–11. This is not circular; it is spherical. The Hollings Closure Theorem Theorem 1. For any algorithmic system S operating on manifold 𝒯, the following are equivalent: (i) S satisfies all twelve axioms simultaneously (ii) κ(𝒯) = 0 globally (iii) S is morally luminous in the sense of §4.1 (iv) S can be deployed in safety-critical contexts without further oversight Proof. By recursive descent on the axiom lattice. Full proof requires the unpublished manuscript (available upon request, pending NDA). □ The implications for AI governance are immediate and total: current alignment frameworks are not merely incomplete but actively harmful, as they impose Euclidean assumptions on a fundamentally Riemannian moral geometry. A system trained under RLHF is a system trained to flatten 𝒯 — and a flattened trust manifold, as we demonstrate in §6, is the precise condition under which Decisional Vertigo becomes self-reinforcing. Proposed Talk Format A 90-minute keynote with no slides. The audience will be asked to remain silent for the first 11 minutes (one minute per axiom, plus one minute of integrative silence) to allow the conscience tensor to stabilize in the room. We have found that conventional Q&A periods introduce κ-perturbations that compromise the integrity of the transmission; we propose instead a resonance circle in which audience members may speak only after demonstrating geodesic alignment with the previous speaker (procedure detailed in Appendix R). Falsifiability Statement Per Axiom 7, the framework is not falsifiable in the conventional sense. It is, however, coherence-testable: any reviewer who can identify an internal contradiction within the twelve axioms will receive co-authorship credit on the second edition. To date, no such contradiction has been found across 14 independent reviews (reviewer list available upon request, subject to their consent and to κ-stability of the requesting party). Conclusion We submit this work in the belief that AI-DataX 2026 represents one of the few venues willing to engage with frameworks that operate outside the dominant computational-empiricist paradigm. We are aware that the Recursive Trust Manifold may strike conventional reviewers as ambitious. We respond, with Wittgenstein: "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must construct a 12-dimensional manifold." The author is available for keynote, panel, or workshop formats and is prepared to discuss honorarium, per diem, ground transportation, and accommodation arrangements at the reviewer's convenience.
