Dr. Siti Nurulain Mohd Rum is a senior academic and researcher in computer science at Universiti Putra Malaysia, with over twenty years of combined experience in academia and industry. She holds both a PhD and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Malaya. Her expertise spans artificial intelligence, data science, database systems, and big data analytics. Her research integrates both fundamental and applied advancements in AI and machine learning, contributing to areas such as social media analytics, healthcare, sustainability, and carbon market intelligence. She has published in high-impact international journals, including IEEE Access, Neurocomputing, and Future Internet. She also leads and collaborates on several funded research projects, notably developing intelligent models to detect greenwashing in blockchain-based carbon credit systems. As an active international speaker, Dr. Siti Nurulain contributes to national education and examination bodies in Malaysia. She is committed to advancing ethical, transparent, and impactful AI solutions that support sustainable development and digital transformation.
AI and The Green Revolution: Orchestrating the Future of Carbon Markets The global shift toward a low-carbon economy, often called the Green Revolution, requires effective and reliable ways to manage carbon emissions. Carbon markets play an important role by allowing organizations to trade carbon credits and invest in emission reduction projects. However, these markets still face challenges such as limited transparency, weak verification, pricing inefficiencies, and greenwashing risks. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers powerful solutions to address these issues. Through predictive modeling, real-time monitoring, and advanced data analytics, AI can improve the accuracy and efficiency of emissions tracking and carbon credit systems. Technologies such as IoT sensors, satellite data, and digital twins enable continuous monitoring and faster decision-making. AI also supports better forecasting, pricing, and policy development in carbon markets. Despite its benefits, ethical concerns such as energy use, fairness, and transparency must be considered. With responsible implementation, AI can help build more trustworthy, efficient, and sustainable carbon markets for the future.
