Prof. Dr. Md. Asri bin Ngadi is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He holds a PhD and has dedicated over two decades to research and teaching in the fields of computer networks, wireless communications, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. He is widely recognised for his contributions to intelligent network architectures and secure computing systems. Prof. Asri has authored and co-authored numerous internationally refereed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters in his areas of expertise. He has supervised a significant number of postgraduate students at both master and doctoral levels, contributing substantially to Malaysia's pool of research talent in computing and information technology. He has served as a reviewer and committee member for various reputable international conferences and journals. His current research interests span cloud security architectures, AI/ML applications in network security, and the integration of emerging technologies within enterprise computing environments. Prof. Asri is an active participant in national and international initiatives aimed at advancing computing education and research in Malaysia and the broader Southeast Asian region. At GCISAAECC 2026, Prof. Asri will present his research on cloud computing security, offering both theoretical frameworks and practical insights drawn from his extensive academic and applied research experience.
Cloud Computing Security: Challenges, Architectures, and Emerging Solutions The rapid proliferation of cloud computing infrastructure has fundamentally transformed how organizations store, process, and manage data. While cloud platforms offer unprecedented scalability and cost-efficiency, they simultaneously introduce complex security challenges that demand robust architectural responses. This presentation examines the evolving threat landscape facing cloud environments—encompassing identity and access management vulnerabilities, data breaches, misconfiguration risks, and multi-tenancy threats—and explores how modern security frameworks and intelligent architectures can mitigate these risks effectively. Drawing on research conducted at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, this talk presents a layered cloud security model integrating zero-trust principles, AI-driven anomaly detection, and automated compliance enforcement. Case studies from real-world deployments will illustrate practical implementation strategies, including secure DevOps pipelines, encrypted data-at-rest and in-transit architectures, and cloud-native security information and event management (SIEM) systems. Particular attention will be given to the Southeast Asian context, where digital transformation initiatives are accelerating cloud adoption across public and private sectors. Attendees will leave with actionable insights on building resilient cloud security postures, selecting appropriate security tools and frameworks, and aligning cloud governance with international standards such as ISO/IEC 27017 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
