Title: Integrating LDAP Authentication with VSO, HashiCorp Vault, and OpenShift Kubernetes to Automate Credential Rotation in Legacy Systems - Abstract: Legacy enterprise applications often rely on static credentials, manual password updates, and tightly coupled authentication mechanisms, which increase operational risk, security exposure, and maintenance overhead. This paper presents an automated credential rotation framework that integrates LDAP authentication with VSO, HashiCorp Vault, and OpenShift Kubernetes to modernize secret management for legacy systems without requiring major application redesign. The proposed approach uses LDAP as the enterprise identity source, HashiCorp Vault as the centralized secrets and credential management platform, and OpenShift Kubernetes as the orchestration layer for secure deployment and runtime integration. The framework automates the generation, storage, retrieval, and rotation of application credentials while enforcing access control, auditability, and policy-based secret lifecycle management. VSO is used to synchronize Vault-managed secrets into Kubernetes-native resources, enabling applications running on OpenShift to consume updated credentials securely and consistently. This reduces dependency on hard-coded passwords, manual operational changes, and long-lived service accounts. By introducing automated rotation workflows into legacy environments, the proposed solution improves security compliance, minimizes credential leakage risk, and reduces downtime associated with manual password updates. The framework also supports gradual adoption, allowing enterprises to modernize authentication and secret management practices while preserving compatibility with existing LDAP-based identity systems and legacy application architectures.
