Amir Akramin bin Shafie

Professor Dr. Amir Akramin Shafie is a distinguished Malaysian academic and researcher specializing in Intelligent Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Industry 4.0 Technologies. He currently serves as a Professor (VK7) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He obtained his Ph.D. in Engineering in 2001 and has accumulated more than two decades of experience in research, innovation, and higher education. Prior to joining academia, he worked as a researcher at SIRIM Berhad before progressing through the academic ranks from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and subsequently Professor at IIUM. Professor Amir has led numerous nationally and industry-funded research projects involving intelligent systems, digital twins, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), smart factories, robotics, machine vision, and Industry 4.0 transformation. His recent projects include the development of intelligent digital twin factories, smart manufacturing systems, AI-enabled telephony systems, and advanced object recognition technologies. An active research supervisor and scholar, he has supervised numerous postgraduate students, including Ph.D. and Master's candidates, and has served extensively as an examiner for postgraduate research. His scholarly contributions include high-impact publications in areas such as neuro-symbolic artificial intelligence, robotics, computer vision, intelligent surveillance systems, human–robot interaction, rehabilitation robotics, and ethical AI frameworks. His work has earned significant international recognition, reflected by a Scopus h-index of 16 and nearly 1,000 citations. Professor Amir's research philosophy emphasizes the integration of intelligent technologies with human-centered and ethical approaches, promoting innovative solutions for smart manufacturing, automation, healthcare, and sustainable technological development
