Biography

Akhila Harinarayana is a Principal Analyst specializing in IT Services with nearly 18 years of experience spanning research, consulting, strategic advisory, and thought leadership in the global information technology industry. She currently serves at NelsonHall, where she advises enterprises and technology service providers on AI-enabled application services, SAP transformation, healthcare technology, vendor strategy, go-to-market planning, and market assessments. Previously, she spent nearly seven years at ISG (Information Services Group), where she led research and authored numerous ISG Provider Lens reports on application development, digital business services, AI-driven services, and SAP transformation. She also held research and consulting positions at Avanade/Accenture and other consulting organizations. Throughout her career, Akhila has authored more than 50 research publications, journal articles, white papers, industry reports, and strategic assessments covering artificial intelligence, software engineering, application services, cloud transformation, outsourcing, SAP, and digital business transformation. She has advised global enterprises and service providers on IT strategy, cloud readiness, AI infrastructure, strategic outsourcing, market expansion, acquisitions, and technology transformation roadmaps. She is also recognized as a reviewer for the Harvard Business Review's Women at Work series. Her research interests include AI-enabled application services, Agentic AI, intelligent software engineering, cloud computing, SAP modernization, healthcare technology, digital transformation, and enterprise IT strategy. She has led several landmark projects, including AI infrastructure assessment for enterprise workloads, cloud readiness methodologies for SAP on AWS, and market analysis of Agentic AI in application management services. She has also launched innovative customer experience research programs and contributed significantly to global research initiatives within the IT services industry. Akhila is an accomplished international speaker who has presented at conferences on topics including Agentic AI in Software Engineering, AI in Healthcare, AI for Public Health, and technology-enabled healthcare transformation. She has participated in leading industry events such as SAP Sapphire, SAP TechEd, NASSCOM Technology Leadership Forum, and international conferences on AI, cloud computing, healthcare, and software engineering. Academically, she holds a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Sri Venkateshwara University (India), an MBA in Marketing from the University of Wales (UK), and executive education in Business Analytics from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. She has also completed professional education at the London School of Economics and is currently pursuing a Leadership in AI certification at the Indian School of Business. Title : Reimagining IT Services Delivery in the Age of AI: A Strategic Framework for Service Providers -     Abstract : Artificial intelligence is transforming the IT services industry by fundamentally changing how technology solutions are developed, delivered, and managed. Traditional service delivery models, built around labour-intensive execution and effort-based pricing, are evolving toward AI-enabled, outcome-driven approaches. To remain competitive, service providers must rethink their operating models across five strategic dimensions. The first is delivery transformation, where AI is embedded across the software development lifecycle, testing, infrastructure management, IT operations, and support. AI-native delivery models automate repetitive tasks, enabling faster delivery, improved quality, and allowing human experts to focus on architecture, innovation, and complex problem-solving. The second dimension is business and commercial transformation. As AI improves productivity, service providers must move beyond effort-based pricing toward outcome-based, subscription, and value-sharing models. They must also strengthen their role as strategic partners by helping clients identify AI opportunities and drive business transformation. The third dimension focuses on technology and intellectual property. Competitive advantage will increasingly come from reusable AI platforms, domain-specific accelerators, proprietary knowledge assets, and industry-focused solutions that enhance delivery efficiency and differentiation. The fourth dimension is people and organizational transformation. Continuous reskilling in AI, data, cloud, cybersecurity, and consulting capabilities is essential as employees transition from execution-focused roles to AI-enabled architects, advisors, and orchestrators. Finally, governance and performance transformation ensures responsible AI adoption through strong governance frameworks while redefining success using metrics such as productivity, automation, quality, customer satisfaction, and business value rather than traditional utilization measures.
