Dr. Fernando Koch is an AI architect and researcher working on how AI-driven organizations can operate as unified intelligences that combine human and artificial reasoning. His research turns frontier AI into enterprise reality and helps organizations become AI-first, translating what is newly possible into strategy, architecture, and deployed platforms. His work rests on three decades at the frontier of enterprise technology. Dr. Koch serves as a Research Professor in the Computer Science Department at Florida Atlantic University and has held executive research roles at IBM Research and Samsung Research. He advised C-suite executives at Fortune Global 500 organizations on enterprise AI strategy and large-scale deployment, work that earned him recognition as an IBM Master Inventor. At Openwave, a Silicon Valley startup, he developed AI for business analytics and mobile computing for the largest telecom operators across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. He set up the Generative Intelligence Lab to pursue experimental research grounded in real industry use cases. His research agenda revolves around ideas on how applied AI must evolve: (i) AI pipelines must become adaptive to sustain performance as conditions fluctuate; (ii) organizations must be conceived AI-first rather than retrofitted onto old processes; and (iii) responsible AI keeps 'humans on the loop', with collective intelligence emerging where humans and AI reason together. Dr. Koch has been an ACM Senior Member since 2013 and previously served in the ACM Distinguished Speaker Program from 2013 to 2019. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Utrecht University, has authored more than 90 scientific publications, and holds over 100 patents.
