Biography

Dr. Emil Obeid is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the American University of the Middle East (AUM), Kuwait, specializing in heterogeneous catalysis and physical chemistry. He received his Ph.D. in Catalysis and Physical Chemistry from Claude Bernard University Lyon 1, France, and completed his Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) at the same university in July 2026.

Dr. Obeid’s research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, computational chemistry, machine learning applications in materials science, electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, hydrogen production, water desalination, and environmental pollution remediation. His work also explores the development and characterization of catalytic materials, sustainable energy technologies, and computational approaches for understanding physicochemical processes.

He has published research in international scientific journals covering green hydrogen production, photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, seawater desalination, molecular simulation, aerogel materials, and machine learning-assisted materials research. He is also a co-inventor of an international patent related to particle filter technology.

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Obeid has extensive experience in university teaching, laboratory instruction, academic coordination, and supervising student research projects. His interdisciplinary expertise integrates experimental chemistry, numerical modelling, computational methods, and data-driven approaches to address challenges in sustainable energy, advanced materials, and environmental protection.
