Biography

Dr. Ramy Bulan is Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and former Associate Professor at the University of Malaya, where she also founded and directed the Centre for Legal Pluralism and Indigenous Law. Her expertise includes legal pluralism, customary laws, indigenous peoples’ rights, native customary lands, restorative justice, and environmental governance She has taught a wide range of law subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has published extensively on indigenous legal issues. Dr. Ramy is co-author of Introduction to the Malaysian Legal System and co-editor of An Anthology of Indigenous Peoples’ Issues (2022) She serves on several national and international boards, including WWF and community development foundations. In 2021, she successfully facilitated a landmark dispute resolution between IOI-Pelita Sdn Bhd and nine native communities in Sarawak regarding native customary land rights
