Biography

BSc in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science graduate from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Bunda Campus, with multidisciplinary training in aquatic science, economics, and data management. Experienced in fish production, water-quality management, and applied research on Oreochromis species, with additional competencies in Aquaculture Economics, Biostatistics, GIS, and Fisheries Information Systems. Skilled in collecting and analyzing large datasets, conducting cost-benefit evaluations, and producing technical reports for decision-making. Strong communicator in English, Chichewa, Tumbuka and Tonga, with a proven ability to work independently, meets deadlines, and adapts skills to new sectors.

Abstract Title

AI-powered Smart Monitoring for Sustainable Aquaculture: Data-Driven Solutions for Smallholder Fish Farmers in Africa:                                                                                                             Aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing food sectors globally, yet smallholder fish farmers in Africa face major challenges including water quality management, disease outbreaks, climate variability, and lack of real-time data for decision-making. This presentation explores how AI-powered smart monitoring systems can address these gaps and promote sustainable aquaculture practices.Drawing from ongoing work in Malawi and regional partnerships, I will present a framework that integrates low-cost IoT sensors, mobile data collection, and machine learning models to monitor critical parameters such as water quality, feeding patterns, and environmental stressors. The talk will highlight practical applications of data analytics for early warning of disease, optimizing feed use, and improving yield while reducing environmental impact.Key case examples will demonstrate how real-time dashboards and predictive analytics empower farmers to make timely decisions, increase productivity by up to 30%, and reduce resource waste. I will also discuss the role of policy, governance, and digital literacy in scaling these solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa.
